If the doctor thinks you should be seen by a specialist, you will go through a referral process. The NHS is currently trying to simplify this procedure using computer software known as Choose & Book
You will be offered a choice of which hospital you would like to attend and, if the technology is working correctly, the doctor will book your outpatient appointment during your consultation. Unfortunately the software does not always work as we would like and if the doctor is unable to book your appointment whilst you are here, the details will be passed to our secretary who will forward you information on booking your own appointment via Choose & Book.
